GARDENA – A suspected street race turned deadly Tuesday afternoon in Gardena. The fatal traffic accident occurred around 4:50 PM in the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 155th Street. According to Gardena Police, two cars were traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Vermont Avenue when one of the vehicles struck a white Honda attempting to go through the intersection. One of the street racing vehicles went out of control, hit two other vehicles before flipping over. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The passenger of the flipped vehicle was able to crawl out of the vehicle. The passenger and the driver of the white Honda were transported to local hospitals. The driver of the other street racing vehicle fled the scene. The Gardena Police Department is handling the investigation.
